chiavari chairs for children

Scarlett’s Carousel The Pier 62 Carousel NYC

Anne of Clafoutis reached out to us to provide tables and chairs for a Thursday birthday party at the Pier 62 Carousel in Chelsea, NYC. The decor elements combined gingham, florals, and stripes to achieve a whimsical carousel themed sixth birthday.

D Girls Mermaid Adventure- Part 2

I knew when planning for this event I wanted Lina of Zoe and Pea to create the desserts. Her attention to detail rivals Michealangelo.

I sent her my design board and let her do her thing. I was not disappointed!

D Girls Mermaid Adventure

After putting off birthday celebrations for my girls I broke down and hosted a mermaid party to commemorate their third and fifth birthdays.  Yeah, I know the former event planner turned event rental proprietor who gets hives when it's time to plan a party. It's just overwhelming, especially with a newborn in the mix. It got done thanks to several of my friendor and business partner. Valerie, Petite Konfetti, was there to receiver all of my random Pinterest screenshots and ideas. Lina, Zoe and Pea, not only created the amazing desserts, she and her husband took pity on me and helped with setup! My sister-in-law was on hand to make everything run smoothly while I ran late. She helped me with setup and breakdown! My homegirl, Iris reminded me to take my hair bonnet off, thank goodness I took out my rollers prior to leaving my house. She was also the kids' craft station matron. Aida, Aida Malik Photography, masterfully captured the event. Kedby of Kedby's Kreations created the mermaid fin cakes to perfection. And Abby of Pretty Posh Design created the plush floral arrangements.

PS Launch Party

Our Launch Party was June 8th at the Art Factory in Paterson, New Jersey. I was overly ambitious and produced a two look photo shoot for our Fall Campaign in addition to this Launch Party. I WILL NEVER DO THIS AGAIN! I was dead on my feet. In spite of this, everything looked amazing and the four vendors who rocked their tablescapes made my job a little easier.

A huge shout out to Digna of Digna Toledo Photography for shooting both the photo shoot and the party. Natasha of the Flair Factor, Chicona of Malani Signature Events, and Juanita of Willow & East THANK YOU so very much for participating. You all did an exceptional job highlighting our chairs. Also, thanks to Jennifer of Sweet Lil Sweets for donating those super tasty custom cookies as party favors. Each of these ladies went above and beyond and I truly appreciate all that they did in supporting Petite Seats.

A super duper shout out to my partner in crime and sounding board, my little sister Olesha of Oh Experience Photography for being on board from day one and supporting me as always.

Could not have done this without any of these women. Finding like minded business conscious women is a challenge, I've been fortunate to work with some kick a%? ladies who are true BOSSes.

I couldn't finish this post without publicly acknowledging my brother-in-law and his family for truly being my go to people the day of. They were movers, haulers, personal shoppers, and bartenders . . . All without a fuss. Love you guys. My hubby was also instrumental in me maintaining my sanity during the planning of the shoot and launch. He truly took Daddy Day Care to the heart and even wore our Petite Seats t-shirt in support. Gotta love the guy!

Summer 2014: Client's Pictures

We have been super busy this summer and haven't made blogging a priority. Petite Seats has been growing by leaps and bounds. We recently added new inventory to be listed on our site at the end of September. Below are pictures of a few of the events we provided Petite Seats.

Interview: "There Should Always Be Cake"

We had the pleasure of interviewing Laury Saldana, owner and baker of NYC's There Should Always Be Cake. Laury was kind enough to answer a few questions, in spite of her super, busy schedule. We are so appreciative!

Years in the Business: 3

You’ve been in the Arts industry for many years. As a seasoned professional do you feel it’s a necessary requirement to have certifications or affiliations to go along with your title? Yes, I believe being talented on its own its excellent but having certification is what gives you that extra confidence and its also that extra tool that allows your customers to trust that they are dealing with a professional.

image.jpg

As a little girl did you envision yourself being a baker? What was your dream job back then? As a little girl I never even thought about it lol!!! I was born in NYC and my mom sent me to live to Dominican Republic when I was 10 years old. At that age I remember making and enjoying all sorts of confections like taffy also known as canquiña in Dom Rep, candied fruit (dulce de toronja, dulce de naranja), flan, dulce de leche, etc. I came back to the US at the age of 16 and also found myself voluteering my desserts and cakes at every family and friend's gatherings, without realizing this was my passion. I came to that conclusion years later when I decided to attend culinary school.

image.jpg

What’s your current obsession? Well... I think that would be cake stands and china lol!! I have a collection of over 120 cake stands. They are just so pretty to me and add that special final touch to your finished cake.

image.jpg

What’s your must have fashion need, particularly when you are baking? My must have fashion need is a fabulous handbag lol!! I don't necessarily need it for baking but I can for sure bring my Chanel to the wholesale market when I buy my cake ingredients lol!!!!

image.jpg

What would you like to learn to do? Photography!!!! I would love to learn how to photograph. I bought a super high tech camera and have no clue how to use it lol!!! I want to be able to take a shot of a simple green pea and allow it to say a million things when someone looks at the photo.

image.jpg

Do you admire anyone’s style (i.e., fellow bakers)? Oh yes!!! A few I totally admire are Elisa Strauss at Confetti Cakes, Stevi Auble at Hey There Cupcake, Peggy Porschen. Those are just a few I can think of.

image.jpg

I am a magazine junkie and I read multiple ones each month. What are your three favorite sources for inspiration? I absolutely love flowers and sugar flowers are my to go item when I want to glam up a cake. So to find inspiration I love to take a stroll sometimes at the botanical garden or page through botanical books, specially flower ones. Also, since I am a flight attendant as well, I love to travel and use the different architectural structures I see as inspiration. And last but not least, fabrics!!! I love couture, so looking at different fabrics helps me find inspiration when constructing cakes.

image.jpg

What lead you to setup shop for yourself? What was your motivation? My motivation was mainly the effect my creations have on people. It gives me great satisfaction to see how happy I can make people with my work and this is what motivates me every single day.

image.jpg

You have developed a well known brand; you name is synonymous with opulently created desserts. What do you think are the three most important skills needed to be successful in building a company brand? Perfection which is achieved by working super hard and making sure your work is flawless top to bottom even if it takes a million hours to finish. Love for what you do, since that is what motivates you to wake up every morning and create something that will make people happy. And perhaps the most important, a great team because you can't do it on your own. Your team is what keeps you running and acknowledging their hard work every single day is what makes your brand solid and successful.

image.jpg

What has been the biggest frustration in your career? To be quite honest... I don't have any yet because I love what I do. That's not to say I won't ever have any, but for now I am quite happy 😊

We had the chance to work with Natasha of the Flair Factor to implement her daughter's 2nd birthday party. Let me just say Natasha outdid her self with this design and all of the personalized and custom elements. It was over-the-top and just right for posh tots.

First Shipment in Route

We are preparing for our first campaign which will include our spring/summer 2014 line of chiavari chair accessories. Our first shipment of chairs is on the way! Our order includes 30, white-on-white chairs.

In route to us . . .

Right as I arrived home a large truck pulled in behind me. The chairs had arrived. The shipping boxes (as shown above) looked like they had been through a scuffle and lost. Nevertheless, the chairs were package so well all 30 chairs arrived without a scratch. We are super excited to embark on this new business journey. We hope to share our experiences as business owners and provide the latest trends in children's parties.

Invitations 4 Launch

On the agenda for this week there were a lot of small details to handle to ensure our promo shoot goes off without a hitch. In addition, we have been focused on planning the June 8th launch event for our brand. Oh and did I mention all of this while marketing our brand on social media accounts (BTW check us out on Instagram @petiteseats).

Vistaprint had an amazing Groupon offer that we couldn't pass up ($27 for $70 worth of products). We ordered business cards (Zazzle) and invitations for our launch. See designs below.

I'm so in love with our color palette of soft greens, gray, and orange.

Over-The-Top Kids Parties: Eloise at the Plaza

Gone are the days when children's parties consist of a homemade cake, a few streamers, a dozen balloons, and  extended family gathering around the kitchen table as everyone sings an off key "Happy Birthday" song. Today, parents are spending more on their little ones celebrations which creates a niche market for special events business owners to thrive. The sky's the limit and parents want nothing more than to host a party their children will remember for a lifetime.

Our all time favorite over-the-top celebration for little girls can be had at the world renowned Plaza Hotel in New York City. An Eloise themed birthday party at the Plaza Hotel includes one of five options and a list of upgrades. The packages are included below:

Petite Seat Launch Party: Phase One

For several days we lamented over an ideal location for an official launch party for the Petite Seats brand. We wanted a location that was easily accessible from NYC and northern New Jersey and had a lofty feel. The venue also had to be trendy and allow for an all day rental. We found it! The Art Factory in Paterson, New Jersey.

The International Gallery

The International Gallery

We secured the venue and now are on the hunt for sponsors to assist us with the execution of the event. We envisioned five to six tablescapes, designed and installed, by local event designers highlighting our chairs and their unique designs. If you are interested in creating an over-the-top children's themed tablescape in exchange for complimentary use of Petite Seats please email us at rent@petiteseatsnj.com
