Birthday Party Activity: DIY Canvas Paintings

Recently, one activity that was chosen for a station at a birthday party we designed + styled was canvas paintings. It’s simple, cute, and a very fun activity for the kids to do.

All you need is a canvas, a paint brush, and paint. For extra panache, adding a mini easel and smock are cute additions (make sure the colors are on theme). As for what’s actually on the canvas, well, that’s entirely up to you. It’s very easy to just leave the canvas blank and allow for the children to let their creativity flow. Or, you can create your own design for the children to color in. There’s a very easy way to get the perfect design copied onto that blank canvas and all you would need is a coloring book, graphite paper, and a pencil.

Using graphite paper and the coloring book page, you are able to transfer the perfect picture over on to the canvas, perfect for themed parties. For our party, Hello Kitty was the theme. Using a coloring book with this theme, we made a unique party favor for each child attending.

Interested in trying this for your next event? All you need is Canvas or paper, graphite paper, a pencil, and the picture of your choice.

Here is a step-by guide on how to transfer over the design:

Step 1: Gather all of your supplies

Step 2: Place the graphite paper over canvas or sheet of paper

Step 3: After choosing the desired image from either online or from a coloring book, place the picture over the graphite paper

Step 4: Take a pencil of your choosing and trace over the picture chosen

It’s a little easier to copy over the picture onto the actual canvas, but for this example, it was all done on normal printer paper. If you plan to try this on printer paper, it might take a little longer to complete due to cleaning up the little marks after all the tracing is complete.

The Final Results:

As you can see, the picture has a few little marks and extra lines that could use a little touching up, but overall, the design was transferred over pretty well.

Here are a few final results from the Hello Kitty party:

Here are links to some of the supplies:
